What's New for the Bronco Sport?

Ford is adding a new Free Wheeling model to the Bronco Sport lineup for the new model year. This model is based on Ford's colorful appearance package offered in the '70s and features 17-inch wheels with red accents, a silver-painted grille, and reflective sunset-like body graphics. The interior is also rather unique, offering reddish trim pieces and a unique plaque on the center console.

Additionally, all Big Bend models now have an available Black Appearance package, which, as it suggests, adds dark details, such as a blacked-out grille, matte-black body decals, and dark 17-inch wheels. There are also two new color options: Azure Gray and Desert Sand. And the Base trim is discontinued, making the Big Bend trim the new entry point model.

Performance

The Bronco Sport is powered by two engine options. Both engines come with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The base powertrain is a 181-hp turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine, while a turbocharged 245-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder is an available option.

Drivers who purchase the more powerful engine will receive steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters and upgraded cooling components. Though opt for the top-tier Badlands trim, and you'll get an assortment of exclusive equipment, including a twin-clutch rear-drive unit with a differential lock.

According to the EPA, base powertrains will get an estimated 25/28 miles per gallon. While the more powerful engines will see a dip in their fuel economy to 21/26 miles per gallon.

Interior & Technology

The cabin of the Bronco Sport offers an attractive design and is adorned with a plethora of popular features. This sporty SUV also has an impressive amount of space that provides a decent amount of rear-seat legroom.

Every Bronco Sport uses Ford's Sync 3 software and is operated on an eight-inch touchscreen. This display comes with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, touch-sensitive controls, and voice commands. Customers can also upgrade their vehicles to offer SiriusXM satellite radio and a B&O audio system.

Additional features include a heated steering wheel & front seat, a 400-watt power inverter, and LED lights built inside the rear gate to provide overhead lighting.

Safety

The Bronco Sport comes with a host of driver-assistance technology. Standard features include forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and a lane-departure warning system with lane-keeping assist. And should you take your adventures off-road, the Bronco Sport can keep you protected thanks to its terrain-specific driving modes and its Trail control which is off-road cruise control.
